Eriogonum umbellatum subsp. glaberrimum

The genus Eriogonum comprises around 250 species.

All the pictures of Eriogonum umbellatum subsp. glaberrimum were taken on Grizzly Peak, above Ashland, August 5 th 2010. The leaves of this sub-species are glabrous on both sides.

According to Jim Duncan, who discovered this species on Grizzly Peak, "this sub-species of Eriogonum umbellatum is known mainly from the Warner Mountains of Modoc County, California, and Lake County, Oregon and this is the only report of it in Jackson County. The nearest sites reported in the Oregon Atlas are all in Lake County. Here is another example of an outlier population of an eastside species in Jackson County."
